3 Players Dropped From Indian Team For Sri Lanka ODIs

The Indian cricket team, gearing up for their upcoming series in Sri Lanka, has made some significant changes to their squad. The series, which includes three ODIs and three T20Is, will take place from late July to early August 2024

Three players who were part of the recent Zimbabwe T20I series have been dropped from the squad for the Sri Lanka ODIs:

Dhruv Jurel: Despite making his T20I debut in the Zimbabwe series, Jurel failed to make a significant impact with the bat, scoring only six runs in his first game. His limited opportunities and the return of senior players like Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant have pushed him out of the squad

Riyan Parag: After a stellar IPL season, Parag was expected to perform well, but he managed only 24 runs in three innings against Zimbabwe. With the competition for middle-order spots being fierce, his place has been taken by more consistent performers

Tushar Deshpande: The pacer had a decent debut in the Zimbabwe series, taking wickets in the two games he played. However, the return of established bowlers like Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh has made it challenging for him to retain his spot

This tour will also see the return of several key players who were rested after India's T20 World Cup triumph. Players like Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, and Mohammed Siraj are expected to strengthen the squad. Notably, senior players such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are likely to continue their break, providing younger talents an opportunity to shine

Gautam Gambhir, the newly appointed coach, will begin his tenure with this series. The squad selection has been aimed at balancing experienced players with young talent, ensuring both immediate performance and future development
